Social media has ruined Pattaya!

Bad girl! How dare she play on her phone.

Or has it??

All of the 10/10 girls are on OnlyFans. Girls are sitting outside bars staring into their phones and ignoring me when I walk in. I waited 10 minutes inside the bar and gave up and left. Dating sites are the end of bars!

What's going on? Is it really that bad? Why don't the bar owners ban phones?

Before you run off to get your pitch forks I'd like you to suspend your beliefs for a moment and think from a different perspective.

First, ask yourself if you have ever had a message from a bar girl.

Did she say "come buy me drink"?

Have they ever sent you a badly designed poster for a birthday party?

As a business owner would you remove the use of phones during working hours from your sales team?

I'm asking that as a direct question, phrased that way, because it makes the "why don't owners ban phones?" question seem pretty silly.

We will come back to this point in a moment.

Look at them all ruining the bar.

How about this question: Why are gents clubs so cheap?

Let me offer my opinion of why I think GC’s are so cheap.

I think that the resident expats that live here year-round go out a couple of times per week on their pension income. The budget for these outings is typically smaller than those here on holiday for a few weeks or a couple of months.

These guys live here and are not at all like tourists.

They have wives and girlfriends. They have been sexually satisfied a million times over. You could throw a naked catalog model at most of them and they would apologise and say, “Sorry, I just got sucked off before I went out!”

Do these expat customers, the majority of customers who visit these gents clubs, want girls to jump all over them asking for drinks the second they enter the bar?

No.

They would get pissed off and never return.

Do the girls have some magic expat vs tourist detector?

No.

Expats and tourists look the same.

So, wait!

Are you telling me that when I walk into a gents club these girls on their phones are doing their job trying to get customers to come to the bar?

And when I walk in I'm going to get left alone to have a quiet beer until I get off my arse and ask a girl if she wants a drink?

99% of the time yes.

Holy shit mystery solved!

Plot twist she was a good girl all along.

In most gents clubs it's a no hassle environment.

There's no hard sell.

That simply wouldn't fly with the majority of the customers who would stop coming in if ladies approached and asked for drinks (also known as a “Drinks Queen”).

So what should I do as a tourist?

When in Rome…? Excuse me, I mean “When in Pattaya…” and when visiting gents clubs you should do as the expats do…

Which, I think, is to enjoy these places for what they are.

Extremely GOOD value adult entertainment where you may have to get up out of your seat from time to time to approach a lady.

For me, and many other gents I know, when you do approach a lady on her phone and ask if she wants a drink you will see a miracle happen!

She will stop texting, smile like she's won the lottery and come and sit next to you! Typically, very excited that you approached her. Because think about it… she’s TRYING to get business and most of the men she sees are regulars and they typically have their go-to girl.

How easy was that! Anyway, for those who are still in the mindset outlined in the first paragraph of this article please forward them this link so they could garnish a new perspective possibly.

It's a lot easier for everyone if you just approach the girls.

I get bored of reading about how guys have flown 6000 miles around the world to then fail to walk 10 meters to chat to a girl. Instead of realizing their opinions are the problem. They go online, or in chat groups and chastise the bars.

PS. There are some bars where you will get approached by ladies and hassled for drinks. These are in the tourist areas.

The girls here make the opposite assumption that everyone is a tourist and act accordingly!

So before you try the "but at X bar they come over" have a quiet think to yourself what their customer base is.

Edit: 11/3/2025 I will append responses I see to this article to the bottom here. Here's the first one.. "Just read his post and I think he's missing the point where both the tourist and expat customer alike are put off by the lack of even a simple acknowledgement and greeting from the ladies when you walk up to a club." I see this as nitpicking. So now we're upset because a girl didn't nod and smile on the way in. Just go in and have a drink and stop being so fragile. You will miss out on a lot of fun if you start creating all these negative ideas in your head. When ready simply do as suggested and wander over to the one you like and say hello. It really couldn't be any simpler. The other fact that came up is that girls actually use their phones a LOT when working. Mostly for translating into whatever language the customer speaks. But also to show the big number on the calculator when negotiating. Phones aren't all bad lol
